I Need To See It Free

as windy days of autumn turn to bleak foggy dawns

and my country descends into winter

a slumber crawls to me

‘it’s been a long time fighting’

she urges to me.

it has been a long long fall.

fighting tooth and nail for it all

my memories of the recent past

almost remind me of a monster

a ten armed monster with an arm in each arm

fighting to think and fighting to speak

fighting on the inside and fighting on the out

fighting to take a step away from the dark

fighting to take a step into the future

fighting for a future that can be gone into

‘its time to rest my dear’

sweet laced her voice as she calls me to her.

a slumber so deep it’s just eternal

a sweet voice so sickening and so beckoning

i remember the screams of the fight

the tears shed for the loss

the hollering violent enemies

hollering all to loud to be able to hear.

i remember the eyes of the dead

beady, lifeless and stark

and multiple.

i remember the sheer victory

on their face, coloured saffron

a victory so vicious, it tires

i remember the defeat

i remember grasping around for something to hold onto

only to find the hand of humanity

my eyes followed her hand to her face

and met with her beady eyes, stark and lifeless.

‘rest now’ she says

fighting her words, fighting my instinct

i get up, my sole covered with shards.

i remember my homeland.

i fighting for my city.

‘come now, rest child’

“my city is in fog, I need to see it free”
